beauty of the dolphins

Cultures have long heard wisdom in non-human voices: Apollo, god of music, medicine & knowledge, came to Delphi in the form of a dolphin. But dolphins, which fill the oceans with blipping chirping, whales, which mew & caw in ultramarine jazz – a true rhapsody in blue – are hunted to the edge of silence.

mystery at sea

one knows not what sweet mystery about this sea,
whose gently awful stirrings seem to speak of some hidden soul beneath.

riding the wave

Land and water are not really separate things,
but they are separate words, & we perceive through words.

—David Rains Wallace, The Untamed Garden and Other Personal Essays

Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can’t go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does.
—Margaret Atwood, The Penelopiad

the sea & the wings

in my dream the sea releases a flock of birds from the foam of the wave—

so much is possible in nature—

little distinction between reality & fantasy

a pocket of water

water—soothing, refreshing, significant to the earth, significant to human life, significant to all life.water giving to the life of fish & flower

according to the water information program of colorado “the human body is more than 60 percent water. blood is 92 percent water, the brain & muscles are 75 percent water, & bones are about 22 percent water.”

once during a workshop, an instructor quoted a poet who inspired him. i am uncertain of the actual quote, but what i heard was “a pocket of water can save your life.” considering how precious water is,

i have continued to think about what that means. So…

when my sweet companionmy sweet cuddly pocket of water giving you the foot
is feeling cuddlymy sweet pocket of water showing off his beautiful long legs

& i am wrapped in the long legs of his feline hug, i find myself in a pocket of water.
the embrace of my pocket of water
