The restless birds in the tree-tops high
Are shaking their wings at last,
And chirp, and twitter their songs of praise,
As the dawn comes on so fast.

a sanctuary filled with an extended family—so many beautiful birds, delightful birds, playful, flying, scampering birds—thrashers, sparrows, woodpeckers, starlings, and titmice and and and.
There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough to pay attention to the story.
because we cannot see the forest or the trees . . .
. . . so who are we that we should care so little about these nurturing trees?
how much more a part of our lives do they need to be?
crows sing a paul simon influenced halloween greeting—
no tricks. only treats.
these festive creatures want to dispell the dark reputation given to crows for centuries.
here is some insight on these wicked scary (?), wicked smart creatures.
“Real isn’t how you are made,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you,
then you become Real.’
‘Does it hurt?’ asked the Rabbit.
‘Sometimes,’ said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. ‘When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.’
‘Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,’ he asked, ‘or bit by bit?’
‘It doesn’t happen all at once,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, & your eyes drop out & you get loose in the joints & very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
—Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit
form and meaning; texture and function; vibration and emotion, & as Steven Heller states, “one of the main attractions of type is the way it echoes and resonates with different things that are going on at the same time in society.”
in an assignment for CARE i collaborated to create family portraits—a man, woman, & child.
they were formed by words that listed resources which could help struggling communities.
in a more whimsical interpretation the alphabet is a tattoo that flows down the neck.

i am a hand-drawn line.
this line illustrates what i see & what i would like to see.
& this is me.
